Start With the Problem, Not a Parts List
A pool table can develop problems for many reasons: age, previous installation work, moving, worn materials, loose hardware, floor changes or simply years of use. The correct repair depends on what is actually causing the problem.
We inspect the table and recommend work based on its construction, condition, value and how you want it to play. Sometimes a targeted repair is enough. Other times, combining repairs with refelting or another scheduled service is the smarter approach.
Common Pool Table Repairs
Rails & Cushions
Worn, hardened or incorrectly installed cushion rubber can cause weak, inconsistent or unpredictable rebound.
Pockets
Repair or replacement of damaged leather, nets, irons and other pocket components, depending on the table design.
Slate & Seams
Address chips, damaged areas, poor seam work and alignment problems that can affect the playing surface.
Cloth
Replace torn, worn, loose or damaged cloth and correct poor installation where appropriate.
Hardware & Structure
Loose or missing fasteners, brackets, leg hardware and other components can affect stability and alignment.
Level & Setup
Correct setup and precision leveling can solve play problems that are sometimes mistaken for damaged components.
Slate Repair & Playing-Surface Problems
Slate is durable, but edges and pocket areas can chip, seams can fail, and previous repairs can leave high or low areas beneath the cloth. These defects may show up as an inconsistent roll, a visible line, a bump under the cloth or a problem around a pocket opening.
The repair method depends on the damage. Slate preparation can include cleaning old seam material, addressing minor damage, smoothing repaired areas, realigning slate sections and resealing three-piece slate seams.
Seam and repair materials are selected for the specific job rather than assuming one material is right for every table.
Performance Upgrades
Pocket Tightening
Reduce oversized pockets and improve pocket geometry for a more demanding playing experience.
Premium Cloth
Upgrade to Simonis 860, 860HR, 760 or another quality cloth selected for your preferred speed, durability and use.
Cushion Upgrade
Replace aging or incorrect cushion rubber and address rail fitment when the table’s construction supports the work.
A performance upgrade should work as a system. Pocket geometry, cushions, cloth, slate condition and level all affect how the finished table plays.
Precision Leveling Is Part of the Diagnosis
A ball drifting off line does not automatically mean the slate is damaged. The table may simply be out of level, the frame may have shifted, or the flooring beneath the table may have compressed or settled.
Pool Table Masters uses machinist levels to evaluate the actual playing surface. Carpet and padding, rubber/interlocking tiles, floating floors and other compressible surfaces can change after installation under the weight of a pool table, so a later adjustment may sometimes be appropriate.
When Should Repairs Be Combined With Refelting?
Many repairs are most efficient when the cloth or rails are already being removed. If the table needs new cushion rubber, slate preparation or significant rail work and the cloth is worn, combining services can avoid paying to disassemble the same components twice.
Cushions + Rail Cloth
Replacing cushion rubber generally requires removal and replacement of the rail cloth.
Slate Work + Bed Cloth
Damage or seam problems beneath the playing surface are easiest to address while the bed cloth is removed.
Move + Repair
A relocation can be a good opportunity to address known problems before the table is reassembled and leveled.
Repair, Restore or Replace?
Some tables are excellent candidates for repair or restoration. Others can become expensive projects without delivering a result that justifies the cost. Table construction, slate condition, frame integrity, rail design, replacement-part availability and sentimental value can all affect the decision.
